For parents out there looking to get a junior racquet for your kids tennis development.

Racket size and length

There are different types of junior racquets for kids ranging 19,21,23,25 and 27 inch racquets. The number is written on the racquet itself so look for the number.

A rough estimate you can look at but use your child’s height as a better gauge.

  • 19 inches for ages 4 and under
  • 21 inches for ages 4-5
  • 23 inches for ages 6-8
  • 25 inches for ages 9-10
  • 26 inches for ages 10 and older

They generally are not too expensive hence parents looking for one for their kid can find them at places such as Decathlon , Royal Sporting House or Queensway Shopping centre.

If you wish to get a ball along with your racquet, a red, orange or greendot ball would suffice.

Put the racquet just beside your kid to be sure the racquet does not fall short of his reach or overly long for his height. Hence, the finger tips touching the racquet grip end or even close to the palm is fine.

Weight and material

Choosing a racket that is aluminium could be lighter and easier to swing for your child as a beginner tennis player. As he/she gets better at tennis, you could shift to a slightly heavier and more advanced racket that is made of graphite.

Skill Level and Playing Style

For beginners perhaps more relevant for adults but in the case of kids, junior rackets are quite standard. So the skill level and play style can be developed further with kids before considering what racket to transit from the basic junior rackets.

Check out tennis warehouse on how you can choose a racket as well, quite a good read to get an overview what to look out for.
