You might be watching the pros hit or at a local tennis tournament enjoying someone hitting and wondering to ourselves hey i want to hit as good as them as well.
I don’t think it comes that easy to anyone trying to achieve a certain level of play but actually focusing on the underlying factors that affect the gameplay is key. Have a look at this tennis agility drills and other drills by Roger which shows a great dynamic warm up before a session.
As a coach that has taken a PTR under 10 for kids certification, we were taught to focus on the kids agility ,balance and coordination. I would think it also applies to the adults as well. Of course, it may not seem as interesting as hitting a ball. But hitting in improperly due to that loss of balance or poor coordination is not helpful and you’ll just be building upon that poor form isn’t it?
Therefore ,when you’re able spend a small amount of time into your regime , maybe just about 5 to 10 minutes before each session or game, it would play a big part to improve your form ( it could be any exercise related to the part that you’re weak at , maybe it’s your balance etc)
These type of exercises do not necessarily have to be done only on court, but can be also done at any place convenient to do so. All you need is probably a reasonable open space and perhaps a partner to work with.
The repetition of these small exercises that would in turn bring about your bigger success in hitting, running to the ball and hitting with balance of your weight and improving your reaction and response to your situation in the game.
Well, not only is it useful for tennis but for any other sport, any ball sport for that matter. This will take some time and patience needed to build on your tennis agility or balance while you take on tennis tips from your coach.
So do get into a habit of including some mini exercises or rituals for your coordination , balance or agility in your game first that suits your pace and fitness level and may you enjoy your game better!
